Inspiration behind Siempreverde

Siempreverde, or, Evergreen, is the story of a woman longing to find the truth about what happened to her husband when he disappears during the Christmas season. He never returns from going out to get the evergreen tree for Christmas. From my writing perspective, we know he’s passed on, but the yearning and lamenting from his true love never subsides. Every Christmas, she wanders into the forest of evergreens crying for a sign to see him once more. With the ethereal element of nature, sky, and spirit, the evergreen silently communicates to the moon to shine a light on the wings of her loved one to show that he is, in fact, an angel. It is written in the style of a bolero/huapango, a traditional Mexican genre made popular by the voices of Lola Beltran and Chavela Vargas, and with contemporaries such as Linda Ronstadt. Though the song has a melancholy tone, it truly is about the unseen forces at work behind the eternal soul and love that never dies, hence the name..Evergreen/Siempreverde. This is dedicated to my Dad who is my angel.
